Welcome to Munnar
Set in the high ranges of Kerala’s Idukki district, Munnar stands at around 6,000 feet above sea level, offering cool weather, sprawling tea plantations, and a peaceful escape from the rush of daily life. Once the summer retreat of British officials, this hill station continues to draw travelers from around the world looking for scenic views, fresh air, and a calm mind
Munnar is not just a town—it’s an entire region dotted with charming villages, tea estates, forests, and farmlands. The wider Munnar area includes Top Station, Kolukkumalai, Vattavada, Kanthalloor, Marayoor, Rajakkad, Pooppara, Anakulam, Chinnar, Gap Road, Mankulam, and several others — each place offering something unique, from mist-covered hills to elephant sightings and spice gardens.
The name “Munnar” comes from the confluence of three rivers: Muthirapuzha, Nallathanni, and Kundala — with “Moonu” meaning three and “Aaru” meaning river in Malayalam. The region spreads over approximately 557 sq. km, making it the largest panchayat in Kerala, and lies within the Devikulam Taluk.
